Rimini: discover the city
The origins of the city date back to 268 BC, when the Romans founded the city of Ariminum developing it, as per Roman custom, on the axis of the two main streets: the cardo (via Garibaldi and via IV Novembre) and the decumanus (corso d'Augusto). For this reason, when our guests ask us what to visit in the historic center of Rimini we always start from the Roman monuments: the Arch of Augustus, the Roman Amphitheatre (once the site of gladiatorial shows) and the Tiberius Bridge. The bridge today connects the historic center with the Borgo San Giuliano, an ancient fishing village characterized by narrow alleys and which offers fascinating glimpses of houses with colorful walls and full of murals in memory of the great director Federico Fellini and his films.
Dating back to the times of the Malatesta lordship, they are theancient Castel Sismondo and the Malatesta Temple, a masterpiece of Renaissance architecture designed by Leon Battista Alberti. Inside you can see a crucifixion by Giotto and a fresco by Piero della Francesca depicting Sigismondo Malatesta, the lord of Rimini and commissioner of the temple.
Piazza Cavour it is the center of the nightlife of the Rimini people; in particular the Fontana della Pigna and the Old Fish Market eighteenth-century, they are the meeting point from which to reach the clubs and pubs in the centre.
